Clone, Volume Copy

The snapshot of a disk volume puts a list of all used data blocks on “read only”, each change is memorised on its own storage area. This snapshot can be forwarded to the backup software to initiate a backup. Once dissolved, it is not possible to execute a new backup at exactly the same place. The restore of the snapshot must happen on a new volume, the data need to be transferred to its original storage area by hand. If a clone had been produced, the state at the time of the snapshot can be restored. A clone is an exact copy of the snapshot. For such a memory copy, one to two hours for approximately 500 GByte need to be calculated.
