Critical Infrastructures (German abbreviation: KRITIS)

Critical infrastructures (German abbreviation KRITIS) are organisations and institutions with significant importance for the community. In case of failure or an impairment of critical infrastructures, substantial supply bottlenecks, disturbances of public security or other in parts traumatic consequences would follow. In Germany, the following areas belong to KRITIS: transport and traffic (aviation, shipping, rail transport), energy (electricity, gas, mineral oils), information technology and telecommunications, finance and insurance (banking, insurances, financial institutions, stock exchange), state and administration (government, judicial organisations, parliament, emergencies and disaster relief including civil protection), nuritrition (food industry, food trade), water, health (medical care, pharmaceuticals, laboratories) as well as media and culture (broadcasting, television, press, cultural goods).
