The flow of information within a computer network is also called data traffic. A quantification is based on the amount of the transferred data. If a file of one Megabyte is transferred from one computer to another, there is a traffic of approx. one Megabyte. The term is mainly used by providers, at hosting companies, they are used for cashing up. In most cases, there is some free traffic, users have to pay only for additional traffic. The actual costs may vary widely depending on the purchase quantity and the guaranteed bandwiths. For companies, a gigabyte costs around 5 Cents. The end consumer pays between 20 Cents to several Euros per gigabyte.
